The Czech climate movement Limity Jsme My (Limits are us!) are organizing their first climate camp with action days against lignite mining. It runs from June 21st to 25th near the city of Most in the North-West of the country (close to the German border at Dresden).

The Czech Republic produces 39% of its energy with coal, 20% of production is exported. For this reason, the Czech Republic is the fourth-largest emitter in Europe. Until now, the population of 80 villages was resettled because of the mining. Despite the rather long-lasting resistance of citizens’ initiatives, the state-owned mining company Cez is continuing with the extraction. Limity Jsme My wants to put down a marker against this during the action days: People and climate before profits!
