Climate before profit! Under this declaration, we will hold demonstrations on April 29th in Vienna for needed progression of national and international climate policy. In unity with the People’s Climate March in Washington, the global majority will raise their voices to demand concrete change towards effective and informed climate policy.
We will stand against climate change deniers and those, such as American President Donald Trump, who publicly claim to support climate protection but continue to advocate old and harmful policies. Additionally, we will stand against the voices of Austrian politicans and businesses who have lost sight of the importance of climate protection. As such, we will speak in support of the groundbreaking court decision to halt the third runway at Vienna Airport and combat the regressions and arguments of such opposition to progress.
In order for the necessary changes in the global outlook towards climate policy to occur, it will require that we all –policitians, industries, and individuals – take a step back from the overwhelming draw to put profit above planet and people. Already climate change is harming people around the globe. We stand in solidarity with them for international change and climate justice.
